Isspro Pyro Thermocouple Questions
Hey Guys,
I ordered some gauges last week and they finally showed up. Only thing is, the Pyro Thermocouple seems to have the wrong sized fitting.
The thermocouple that was sent is a R658SHT-8F. The box says it is a Adjustable Short Hi-Temp with 1/8" Fitting. The thermocouple has the same part # on it.
The problem is the fitting seems to be much bigger than 1/8". Looks more like it matches up with my 1/2 inch dies. Could this be 1/4 NPT? Would it be dumb to use this fitting or should I send back to get the 1/8"? Would I need a smaller probe or are they universal?
Thanks for you insight.
Clark

first of all, i would verify with a 1/8 NPT tap or die before sending anything back.
i would use 1/8 if it doesn't throw a wrench into your plans too much.
only reason for my thoughts on this is that he 1/8 NPT seems to be standard across the board for fittings such as these from various gauge and performance product manufacturers should you ever decide to change down the road. that being said - you could use what you have, then just get a reducer bushing at a later date if needed . . .

The smaller the hole you will have to drill in the exhaust manifold, the better. And as already mentioned, make sure you know what size it actually is before you hastily send anything back. 1/8" would be around a 3/8" hole and a 1/4" would be more like a 1/2" hole.....or so. Also, when you drill and tap the hole, dont run the tap to far in the manifold otherwise you'll have to tighten the compression fitting so much that it will run into the manifold to far and become an obstruction.

Thanks guys, I'll be patient and wait till I get the correct fitting.
It's definitely 1/4" npt cause its roughly 1/2" diameter. I also cross checked it with my 1/8" npt tap that I used for my fuel pressure gauge and its way bigger.
All i can figure is they accidentally sent a fitting for the post turbo bung.
Thanks,
Clark

When I originally installed my Isspro thermocouple years ago it was a 1/4 npt. A few years later I installed the Edge Attitude thermocouple which was 1/8 NPT. I just installed a bushing in the original hole to neck it down to 1/8 NPT.
