Installing Propane?????

Most of the reading I've been doing about installing propane it related to the 24 valve Turbo Diesel. I take it it will work just as good on a 12 valve Turbo Diesel also. Am I right thinking that?
Also when mounting the Sparge Tube into the air intake. What is the best thing to use to allow the propane to disperse into the incoming air stream? ???

Re:Installing Propane?????

I'm going to do it myself. I can get everything I need for a lot less the what the kits cost. I'm just needing to know what is needed to be used to inject the gas into the air intake. Is it just a open tube or is it adjustable or does it have an orfice in it to regulate the gas flow.

Re:Installing Propane?????

If you are gonna be using a liquid to vapor regulator, all that is needed is a rubber line in the intake line with the angle cut in the line towards the turbo. This allows it to "sense" boost quicker.

I'm going to use vapor. So if I understand you right! All I need to do then is install a Sparge tube and not worry about having to meter how much gas is going into the air intake. If that is the case the rest of it will be easy. I see you have the propane set up on your truck. I take it, it's doing a good job for you. Thanks for the information!

Not too mention a boost psi sensor to turn on the propane and off at a set psi, electric lock off valve etc. There are cheaper ways of doing it with an oxy/acetyline regulator but I wouldnt.

Re:Installing Propane?????

I'm going to use a Bean Regulator with Electric solenods for gas lock off. I believe I can get a Boost pressure switch local here. I'm not going to cut any corners....I've just been looking at the kits and for what they are asking for the kits is a little high for what the parts really cost. From what I could see of the parts list which come with the kits. They might have $85.00 invested......The mark up is a little to much as far as I'm concern. I work for a LP Gas company. So I do have some ideal what the part cost. We just don't get into the converson stuff. But I can get what ever I needto do the job!

Re:Installing Propane?????

Your setup sounds good. I made my own system from a liquid to vapor regulator and some other safety parts. I just havent installed it yet. It has the same safety features as the 600+ systems out there. :

Re:Installing Propane?????

Well being the primary fuel Diesel, I don't see the need to run liquid. But that is a good ideal though. From what I've been reading up on, just running vapor is good enough. Plus to then I don't have to tie into my heater line and such. I can use a Beam vapor regulator and it should work just fine. I think going to look around a see if I can come up with a small valve to insert into the air intake that has some kind of adjustment on it. Still working on that part....When are you going to install yours?

Re:Installing Propane?????

GA I run the Diesel Performance Powershot 2000 system. It is a vapor type. I also have an 8" X 32" tank. It is very sensitive to adjust the regulator. DP sent me another type of regulator to adjust the boost pressure down. I am working on getting it to come on at 12 lbs of boost, I have an orifice type regulator in the LP line the more the boost the more it opens up and the more lp I get. I am also trying to get this to be a full open when I hit 35 lbs of boost. It takes some getting use to. Diesel Performance has been very helpful. Be careful if you hear crackling or knocking shut it down. Also what size injectors are you running? OverFueled

Ive had it drawn up for over 6 months now, just havent had the time to do it. Since compression goes up with the use of propane, I will probably wait unitl I get a newer truck and O-ring the head and not take any chances.

The 5.9 is stock turbo diesel. I'm just wanting to get a little more HP only when I need it. I use the truck to pull our camper.

Re:Installing Propane?????

Can one of you guys that has made your own sent me your digrams of how it works and what is involved. I don't know enough about it to make my own, but with a little gidance, and instructions I could handle it. If a guy could build his own system for under $100 I think it is worth it. What are some of your thoughts on running propane? I know you get a lot of horse, and good fuel milage, but I would be concerned that the dry air might harm the motor after time, then with the incressed heat and stuff, sounded a little risky at first for me.
Thanks
Heath
