Installed #6 tst plate.......

I just got my #6 plate from tst. I asked for a lower horsepower plate but they suggested the #6 for best fuel mileage. Does anyone agree with this? And is there any other mods that will benifit my mileage towing/empty? I was going to shift my stock plate foreward but decided to go this way. I needed more power towing up hills because I would loose 8-10 mph before it will shift down and stay steady. And once it starts loosing mph forget maintaining speed. I floor the pedal and there is no change, just keeps loosing mph. Any advice other than leaving the O/D off? I would like to stay up near 65 or so and with O/D off its up there at 2200 at about 58-60 or so. I assume I could rev it more but I think it will hurt mileage and I dont like to see the engine at those rpm's for extended periods. Am I too cautious?

#10 plate....This plate can be slid all over the place to get it where you want it. I have a number of trucks running this plate 45k toward the firewall to save the clutch or automatic. I also have trucks that have this plate slide forward..

I have installed a number 6 in my Dad's 96 Dually-auto combo, it is awsome!!
He pulls a trailer that weighs 17,500, with the stock plate no good, now he doesn't slow down at all regarless of the hill. But the mileage did fall off a little bit.(I think it is a function of his right foot, but he won't admit to it)

I am going to put one in my 98 next week too.

I keep telling anyone that will listen. The best thing I did to my '95 was the 3000 RPM governer spring kit (3K GSK). Not only does it make the truck faster but it improved the drivability and the tranny shifting. Not sure about the milage, I never really checked the difference.

I am using it with a #10 plate and it works great!

If you need more information on the 3K GSK try a search. There is alot of information already posted.

My father-in-law has the #10 and the 3GSK in his 95 auto.. Great combo..

Mileage is not going to be affected by just the plate install unless you run around with your foot in the floor all day. The mileage is up to the driver regardless of the plate installed.

My mileage did not change at all installing the plate, I mostly drive highway though empty. Towing my trailer the mileage dropped a bit with a high load (wind, hills) because I can maintain speed and pull like crazy, but power = fuel so the mileage dropped a bit. If I were to back down a bit and drive more conciously on fuel, it would stay the same.. But what fun is that??

You will be fine with the #6. Only thing i would worry about is the converter slipping if you dont have the triple disc in yet(hows that coming along?). I also 2nd the 3k GSK. It will make it MUCH more driveable. Dont wory a thing about holding that cummins at redline up a hill as long as EGT's are in check. They have these motors in marine, and other applications that run on the redline all day long. You just cant hurt them. You will be fine in overdrive with the triple disc converter as long as EGT's stay in check. I would be worried about the stock converter slipping in overdrive with the #6, but with the triple disc; like i said. You should be fine in overdrive with it as long as EGT's are fine, and you should have the power to easily hold speed too.

my thoughts on rpm, this last 4th of july weekend we went from mandan nd to cody wy and then the south route to devils tower. i noticed if i ran in 5th the motor would still pull the grade but the egt's were sky high, when i down shifted to 4th and ran near red line the thing ran much cooler egt's
let them rev with in reason you can't hurt them.
