Injectors=Turbo?? With Smarty??

Reading the thread about the smarty got me thinking about injectors. I think my ultimate goal is 400'ish rwhp, a little more is fine, less.....nahhhhh. I was looking at Piers' at the DD jammer stage 1/2/3's and whats the difference between the jammers and the DDP's?

Now questions, at what injector stage would I have to start worrying about the lack of a turbo? How much is my stock turbo gonna do? 30psi boost? I plan on getting the smarty next year, injectors would be after that but only feel like buying once to get to my ultimate goal of 400'ish. I do tow with it, work it, but not as heavy as you guys. Sometimes do 8,000-12,000 hooked to the truck(that's trailer and load) but if I had to tow heavier I would not want to sacrifice that. So is 400hp a good range for that? Would I need to go to a larger turbo? Where would the cutoff be? I mean if I got jammer 3's and a smarty would I require a larger turbo or could I mess with the wastegate on my stocker and get it right? Just kinda looking for a combo that'll get me to the 400'ish mark. Any ideas from you guys will be appreciated!

Thanks,

Shawn

Jammer III's and a smarty would be close to 330-340hp I think. The stock clutch would not hold because of the amount of fuel the smarty gives down low. I have an EZ and Jammer III's and my clutch is hanging in there, I dont give it alot of fuel until 1700-1800rpms, the factory clutch will handle high HP better than alot of low end TQ. Now I can tow pretty good at sea level keeping boost around 30-33psi, wont get over 1250* but if boost gets up to 35-36psi, Im moving alot of hot air and 1400* is possible. I dont know how hot smarty's are so I cant compare my EGT's to someone with a smarty. But, the EZ and smarty are both 65hp boxes, but thats about the only way they compare from what I hear.

If you want 400hp, which is what I want too and have 100hp injectors then there are two options.

100hp inj + smarty($600)+TST($600)= 440hp (BigBlue dynoed that)
100hp inj + Comp or Drag Comp ($350-450)=400hp

the comp will give fast adjustablity but the smarty TST will fuel like crazy and be what out of the map of the HX35 The smarty TST will also give more but slower adjustability( You can turn them both completely off) then you would have no timing and those injectors would be pretty hot. With the comp you can play on 5x5 with an eye on the pyro and tow at 1x1 and be really be pretty safe.

A comp is in the near future for me.

Hey Shawn,
The Smarty and J-3's are a good combo. It's all that your stock turbo /trannie wants though. I can see 1450 - 1500 deg when loaded and I'm into it hard.
Good luck,
Topper

Thanks guys! So smarty, jammer 3's and a tst would be an excellent start and get me around 400+. But I should be looking at a clutch and larger turbo to keep my egt's in check or be able to supply the air that the boxes/injectors are gonna require. That sound about right? If I somehow stumble over $3000 that has no purpose I could just get the whole kit and kaboodle at once!

I don't think I want to push 500hp to much, is that not the range where you have to start thinking about fire rings and stuff like that? If I had the jammer 3's, smarty/tst combo and I threw a ????? turbo on there hypothetically what kind of hp would we be talking? I guess I'm trying to find the good combo that I can actually stop at a horsepower that satisfies me......is there actually a point where that happens????

BigBlue dynoed 438hp with 110hp injectors+smarty+TST+KSB1 ( I dont know the specs the that tubro) but a phat shaft 62/12 would probably be good or anything that size I would assume.

Wow! CTD, so you had the Drag Comp, DD3's, HTB2 turbo and had 434! I could just forget the smarty pretty much could'nt I? Ok, dumb question, the drag comp is made by who?

What about this combo? PDR HX40, DD jammer 3's with a smarty? I liked the hx40 cause they said it was good for towing, "streetable driving manners" and faster spool and it fits the hp range I am looking for. If I got the injectors and turbo then later on the smarty would it be good?

Get that pyro before you start adding fuel. The stock turbo is good for up to 34 #'s.

Ok, dumb question, the drag comp is made by who?
EDGE makes the comp box, and offer a drag upgrade for it.

If you're only looking for 400 hp consider upgrading your turbo to a hybrid for a fraction of the cost of a replacement turbo. Bob Wagner runs smarty, mach 4's, and a hybrid turbo for 401 hp =P
