HX40 Opportunity

I have found an hx40 in the local classifieds and was wondering about it. It is for sale for cheap, and if it is sound (little or no play) I might try it. How does this turbo flow compared to my ?WH1-C? <- It is a stock 94, whatever it is. I know it takes a different down pipe, but will it bolt to my stock exhaust manifold and stock air boot? Any suggestions or advice are appreciated.

I may be wrong, but I think the HX-40 can come with two types of flanges. One will fit and one won't. I want to say that one is a T3 and the other is a T4, and you want the T3.

I don't have an HX-40 and never worked on one, so hopefully if I'm all wrong someone who actually knows what they're talking about will correct me soon.

I had an HX-40/16 on my 1996 Dodge CTD a few years ago and saw a 20 H.P.
increase over the stock HX-35/12. I DO NOT recommend installing an HX-40 with the 18 or 21 cm exhaust housings as the bottom-end "lag" is pretty bad.
I really liked my HX-40 and never had any problems with it. Keep the boost between 35-38lbs and they will give you good service.

Thank you John. The c-list guy says it has 7 blades on the wheel that draws in air, so maybe I'm lucky and its a super. Will check on it tonight.

You are very welcome Sir! Glad I could be of help to you. I still have the compressor side of my old HX-40/16 and will check the number of blades for you. I think you are right though, the "Super HX-40" does have seven blades,
I think!

Great Turbo

I had a PDR HX-40 on my rig before going bigger.
I'll tell ya right now thats a bad **** turbo. I put mine through the test & it always performed till the day I sold it.
If I had more money, it would be in a box on my shelf.

hey hope you don't mind me joining this convo i am looking to upgrade turbo soon too and now after reading what you guys were saying i am thinking the HX40 sounds like a good turbo for me. how much can they handle, if i have a programmer and add 100hp injectors will that be too much for it or will the HX40 handle that much fuel no problem.

HX-40 will light those 100hp sticks just fine.
