HX35/40 Hybrid Vs. Super Phat Shaft 66...PICTURES!!

I thought I would post pictures to let people what the differences are in each turbo.
This is not meant to be one is better than the other but more of an information tool since their area a lot of questions about the 2 units.

The 66 in the picture is for a 3rd gen truck (hence the compressor housing difference) and the HX35/40 hybrid is for a 2nd gen (of course).
The SPS has a 66mm front wheel and 70mm rear wheel.
The HX35/40 hybrid has a 60mm front and a 56mm rear wheel.

The Holset has the 14cm wastegated housing (notice the 14 embossed on the housing).
The SPS turbo has the 14cm wastegated housing (which is more like a 15cm).

Those are good pics-- they really show the superior hot side of the SPS66.

You can see here why the SPS makes power-- it actually FLOWS on the hot side....

There are some trucks that run doggone well on those hybrid turbos! Not just respectable hp #'s, but quick et's in the 1/4 mile. Probably because they spool so well.

Can't say as I blame you on the phat shaft though. Sounds like they are really solid turbos. I was looking at the HTT's though because of the supplier and they seem to be a few hundred $'s less expensive. Not sure exactly what a 64-14 in a phat shaft can be had for? Internet prices seemed to be listed around $1800 or more. Anyone have any ideas how close that is to what you can buy one for?

Those are pretty respectable numbers for 1.6s.

GB, I think you're beyond the HP range that a DZ is suitable for. The 35's hot side gets pretty inefficient trying to power a larger 61mm compressor at higher HP levels (like 450+). A Full HX40 has a larger wheel, but this makes the shaft proprortionally weaker, too.

That's why I think you should hold out for an HTT or II turbo-- it's a much better overall package, IMO..

Justin-- who clipped the wheel on that hybrid? That doesn't appear stock to me! I guess you'd HAVE to clip the wheel in a 35/40 to help that tiny pinwheel flow...

Justin,
I just double checked the wheel, it appears in the picture to be clipped but not so. Its just the way the light is reflecting back from the flash.
