Most engine wear from people like us comes from High Horsepower that we are making our engines produce.
Starting up and warm up phase is probably a considerable amount of wear for a stock application truck. But marginal when you consider the power most of our trucks are producing (premature rod and main bearing wear come to mind).

PourinDiesel,
Lets say you take a 200 Hp Cummins 5.9L and Double the power to 400 HP (100%Gain) or Triple the Horsepower 600 HP (200% Gain)
What is your guess on the amount of increased load on the bearings?
At 400HP (100% more Power)
at 600HP (200% more Power)
You Tech nuts that know the answers please let a few members guess. :-X ;D
Thx Kurt

It's like the racing legend "Grumpy" Jenkins said once, every engine has a certian hp life. You can have a lot for 2 years, or a little over 10 years. I think there is a lot of truth to that.

Ok, here's my guess...NONE.

The bearings ride on a film of oil, as long as that is maintained, there would not really be more stress on them.
Well, maybe a little more compressive force, but not the rubbing one might imagine.

The rods and crank on the other hand...

VinDiesel, Your aren't too far off.
Also I should clarify... I am talking about Bearing Load which isn't exactly wear.
From doubling the Torque load the the "PowerLoad" increases about 20%. I will try to explain further tonight. I am a slow typer no matter how much coffee and Mountain Dew I have...
