Are there any exhaust brakes for a 12v that don't require 60#ers?

I hate downshifting, its so loud...

With a exhaust brake you will still have to downshift.

Yeah, I just read that the engine needs to be at 2400 RPM to activate...

I'm never up there anyway...

actually the more rpm, the harder the brake works.

I still have dumb questions about diesels...

Say I went from 5th to 3rd... would that screw anything up?

Bend some valves, huh?

I'm still learning, forgive me

I run my pacbrake 2000 rpm and under generally between 1500 to 1800 in fifth gear. If I am on a good hill I will go into 4th but that is because there are corners to negotiate. And that is at 11000 lbs. You can run a pacbrake in a 12 valve with the 30 lbs valve springs, you just don't put in the block in the second hole in the brake valve. But you would probably want the 60lbs springs it makes it a much better brake. It is not real hard to put the springs in just bring each cylinder to the top and let the valve sit on the piston as you go about putting the new springs in. The brake will activate at any rpm and can be used at idle and up 1000 rpm to speed up warm up.

Downshifting is hard on your clutch. It would really be bad if you went 5th to 3rd. The engine would most likely be fine though.

Are you just wanting to save $120 on the valve springs? Or half if you only got 6 of them.
