How hard is it to install a pacbrake?

I am getting an 04 manual, and want to put a pacbrake on it. How hard would it be to do it myself? I have just read the manual, and it didnt seem to bad, until it started talking about the ecm, and pins.? Or would I be better off paying a shop to do it?

I can follow directions pretty good, and they dont seem that hard, but hell if I know, what say you guys?

I don't know for sure on the Pacbrake, but I've installed Jacobs brakes that hook to the ECM. They aren't bad at all. I think you'll be fine doing it yourself, they're actually pretty easy to hook up.

I am not good at this stuff, but can usually figure it out with a manual, I am just worried about the electrical part of it.

Installing the pin in the ECM connector is quite simple. There's a plastic plug in the connector that needs to be removed and then the new pin is pushed in to place until it locks.

I unhooked the batteries and then removed the driver's side fender liner to get better access to the ECM connector.

I just put one on my 04 a few weeks ago. Just remove both front wheels and wheel well liners. That makes everything easy to get to. Doing the wiring and keeping it all neat is tedious. Plan most of a day for the install if you are by yourself.

I found the DTR store the cheapest place.
I don't know why you'd need to take BOTH inner fenders out but I took the passenger one out and pulled the wheel off for easy access to the elbow.
Trickiest part for me was getting the exhaust to mate up with the exhaust brake. I put an bottle jack on the exhaust to push it up tight till I got the clamp on.

I ordered mine from Thoroughbred diesel. Free shipping made it very competitive and they also had the other things I needed.

FYI, removing the driver's tire and wheel well makes getting at the ECM connector much easier.

No special tools needed. Just follow their wiring diagram to a T and you won't have any problems. The mechanical part of the job is simple but awkward when it comes to fitting the down pipe to your new Pac Brake elbow. A friend either on the top side or under is much easier but it can be done by yourself.

I have included a picture of what you'll be looking at in regards to the ECM connection. Just use a needle nose pliers to remove the rubber/plastic pin and then use the needle nose to insert the Pac Brake pin back into the socket until you here it click. The sound will be slight and when you GENTLY pull back on the wire it should stay in the socket.

I haven't installed mine yet, but Alligator Performance was the least expensive I found, it arrived 3 days after I ordered.
