Hood ornament
Hood ornament
I have an idea, but would like to see if anybody else has done it first. Does anybody have the old fashion Dodge 'Ram' head hood ornament on a second generation truck? If so, could you either point me into the direction of pictures or e-mail me a picture. I found one that the eyes glow amber, when the headlights are on. I think it would look cool like the bulldog on the Macks.
Seen that mentioned in the next to the last issue of TDR mag. A couple in there had mounted one on their hood (did not mention the light up eyes) I thought it was a pretty cool idea.
I would not mind having one. I always thought the hood ornament made a vehicle stand out and was sort of sorry to see the practice go by the wayside.
While we are on the subject I always like the old Mopars with the turn signal indicators on the ends of the hood - very neat.

Beware of the light up eyes ornament that JC Whitney sells for about $40.
I ordered one and it just looked too cheap so I installed it on a beater ranch truck rather than my Ram. Plating was peeling off in a year.
Go for a pricier one if you do it, better yet find a junk yard with old rigs and pull one off. Ebay also has tons of them click here
Cool website with hundreds of different hood ornaments

Remember these old Pontiac ornaments?

I was looking at my '52 GMC dump truck a few weeks ago and was impressed with the massive chome grill work with bullets and bumper. The chome work alone probably weighs more than entire body of a Ram.
Sure don't make 'em like they used to when gas was 17¢ a gallon.
And no, I didn't buy it new.
