Help with a turbo

Just finishing up mods to my truck that include an Edge Comp and 100 HP injectors. My stock turbo doesn't start spooling until around 1700 RPM's and that slow spool is real noticable now with the fuel mods. Pretty sure I need to upgrade to get more air moving for the higher levels on the comp. Any recommendations? Have been eyeing the HTB2 with a 12cm or 14cm housing. Want to be able to use Level 5 and actually notice a difference.

Imo you ought to go with something a little larger than just the htb2 maybe like a htb2-64 or phat shaft 64

So you want faster than stock spool? I'd look at Phatshaft 62, KSB-1, or HTB2.

See my sig. I've got the same setup as you pretty much. My HTB2 (62/12) keeps the EGT's in check just fine. 1300 is the highest I've got it, foot to the floor in 6th, comp on 5x5!

Is it just me or does 1700 for a stock turbo with that setup sound really slow.

When I only had a box with the stock turbo wastgate blocked would light around 12-1300 real hard.

Sure the mainfold gasket is good, or cracked manifold?

Yah doesn't seem right. A stocker should spool faster than a bigger turbo. Something else seems off.

I'll check out the Phat shaft turbos before I do anything. Guy that does my mods said the manifold looks good. He just replaced one on a 1999 right before started on my truck. Will do some more looking under the hood.

Could the slow spool be the result of a turbo that got overheated in it's life?

Check:

Boost fooler connection

Air & Fuel Filers

Air box lines (make sure they haven't collapsed)

And smoke, ur truck oughta look like your burning tractor tires in the back if you've got a drag comp on kill and 100 hrs sticks and the turbo's not lightin till 1700

Dont worry about the turbo right now.

As others have said, it sounds like something else might not be quite right.

But.... You need a Smarty or pick up a catcher ecm.

That will spool the turbo, you can take that to the bank.

Well, checked over the system again and found nothing out of the ordinary. Played around with the Comp box and found that I really don't start getting alot of smoke until I hit level 4 and 5. I charted my boost ranges versus RPM and everything seems fine, just sluggish when I put my foot into it. Seeing a 36 psi spike and steady 32 psi with my foot in it but doesn't really kick in until 1650 RPM's. BHAF is like new and just changed the fuel filter. Don't know. Will keep looking. Maybe there is a hairline crack in the manifold we are not seeing.

I was gonna say, after reading your first post and you not seeing spool up till 1700 rpms, something does not seem right. I ran my stock turbo, same as yours for a little bit before i upgrade with a comp and stage 5 injectors and that thing would lite immediately, just about instant boost. Pressurize your system and make sure you dont have any leaks anywhere
