Question HELP! Is my IP dead?

Okay here is what happened, the truck was running fine and I got my quad adrenaline today, hooked up the quad started the truck let it idle and warm up and left the driveway. Pulled out nice and slow and everything seemed fine. I got into the loud pedal and woohoo.... for about 3 seconds then the motor died. So I unhooked everything and put it back to stock and still nothing, I called quad and they said that if the pump has over 80k on it that it is typical for them to die with the first hard burst of fuel like that. Well needless to say I went from excited to really bummed awful quick. So I just figured I would ask on here and HOPE maybe it isn't my pump. Also I just added a big line kit with a holley blue but didn't get to see what the fuel pressure went to since I wasn't even in the pedal but a few seconds. I checked the tapped wire and it does have power to it also. Any help would be REALLY appriciated, and a cheap place to get a pump and some links would help too!

Thanks
Chris

That stinks!

See what codes you have, if any and it will be easier to diagnose from there. If you are lucky it could be something else?

I just checked and the only code I got was a 1765 and of course 1693 which I read on here just means you have a code present. And the 1765 has to do with the tranny and my TC switch. The tech at Quad said that if it were the pump caused by the quad and a worn out pump it wouldn't throw a code which it isn't. He also said that it pretty common and that they get calls on it a couple times a week! I am just trying to make sure it is the pump and not something simple like a crank sensor or something which I would imagine it would throw a code for that though.

What tune were you running? just out of curiosity.

Also, it is possible, depending on which tune you were running that you just ran the pump out of fuel? You could always crack an injector line or tow and see if you get fuel out of them and then see if it will start?

Pumps don't set codes always but, the majority of the time you will get something like a 0216 or something that makes you believe it is a pump problem.

You said you just intalled a fuel system so you need to make sure it is getting fuel to the pump, the fact that is only lasted a couple of seconds makes me wonder if the supply went dry for some reason as well?

I don't know if we get calls about pumps going out a couple of times a week but, a lot of people with high mileage pumps ask if it is going to kill the pump. The answer is unknown, if it is weak yes, anything you do to ask more from it could push it over the edge, that is a downside to the VP trucks.

I just reread how I worded that about the fuel upgrade, I didn't just put it on today also, it has been on for about 2 weeks now and 3-500 miles or so. The adrenaline is all I put on today. The truck has 102k on it so it isn't high mileage but I know what you mean with the VPs. As far as what tune I was running I don't know what you mean exactly, I took it out of the box and hooked it up, the pod was on level 10 though.

Thanks for the replies

I think if you have a weak VP because it has 100K miles ANY wire tap box has the chance of killing it. I am pretty sure that is not something related to my product, that is the nature of the beast.

What comes on the box should not suck the pump dry.

The first thing I would try and do is crack some lines and see if any fuel comes out so you can get it started. If it won't do this you either have a supply issue or the pump is gone. I don't know that I have ever seen or heard of one dying quite that fast or gone completely dead with no fuel supply immediately though.

So try step 1 and troubleshoot from there.

I agree, any wire tap box increases the chances of killing a weak pump and no manuf. includes this in their sales pitch. You should be the first

Yea I agree you should be the first, and I will bite the bullet and let you buy me the first pump too! J/K I understand, I think it was probably a weak pump too, just the timing sucks especially when I was all pumped up to get some power from the truck. Tommorrow I will try and crack a line and see what happens but I think the ol IP is gone. I was really hoping somebody was going to come in here and say "I had that problem it was just the _______ and it only cost me $5 to fix it" but I wreckin that's just wishful thinking!

Those VP44's are a disaster. I wouldnt blame any add-ons for its death (if it really is toast). Ive read many many posts from people with dead VP pumps.
I agree with troubleshooting it. Make sure you have fuel from the lift pump then move on.
