Help me spend money wisely, please

I have about $1000 to spend on the silver bullet and was hoping to get some advise from some members with more knowledge and experience than me.

I have gauges and a southbend clutch that will be going in before any performance mods. I know that a GSK will for sure be on the list of mods, but I am wondering if I should go 3 or 4 thousand. Hate to install 3 thousand and then realize I should've went more.

I also want the truck to still be towable, as I sometimes hook to loads in the 8,000# range. (race cars and such). WOuld like to keep both eyes on the road more often than one eye on egt gauge and one on the road.

Also wanted to see if anyone knew of any Performance diesel shops with good reputations in the Kentucky area, or individuals that have good skills. Having a hard time finding anything in my area.

I'm not looking to go drag racing but would really enjoy having some more get up and go, and useable power. Thanks in advance.

I would recommend going with e #10 plate, better air intake, 4" exhaust, and a spring kit..... For your application I would go with the 3k kit, this kit allows the engine to rev to around 3200 rpm. Unless major mods are made to our engines they are loosing HP rapidly above this rpm limit anyway.

i think with that pump a 4k wont hurt cuz it prolly wont fuel to 4k. Youll definately want some timing though. Where in kentucky are you located? ther is brc near cincinatti. or a great mechanic in shelbyville that i can get a number for you if you want.

Thanks for the replys, I really appreciate it. I was kinda hung on the spring kit because of my 175 pump, through reading several posts, it was my understanding that 4k GSK would get me roughly 3500-3800 rpms. The timing will definitely need to be bumped, it is for sure below 12.5 degrees. I just can't find a place locally that will bump past stock settings. I was thinking of 16 or 17* when I do get it done, does this sound reasonable?

I am located just north of Bowling Green Kentucky, as some of you will know Bowling Green is home to Beech Bend raceway. TS performance of bowling green is the only high performance shop around, and they won't touch anything that isn't totally computer controlled. Any help will be gratefully appreciated. Brian

Still looking for somone with 175 pump combos that work nicely to make decent power and keep egts in check for the most part. I'm still hung on the 3k or 4k GSK kit. Guess i'm just hoping that someone with small pump experience will gime me some good info. Thanks Brian

I had a 215 pump, 370 injectors, #6 plate full forward, only 12.5* timing, and it was totally drivable as far as EGT's... it would get hot quick, don't get me wrong, but it was a lot of fun...

w/ a 175 pump and some timing, you'll be fine...

as always, watch the EGT

Call Bill at BRC Diesel in Northern KY, (859)991-5655. He is a hell of a guy and has GREAT prices!!!!!Tell him Chris sent ya.

Just go with the 4k kit with the 60lb valve springs and a custom plate. Then you will have to think about turbos and all the other good stuff.

Chris
