On my truck it's the orange/black wire. I just hooked into it Saturday to wire the lighted e-brake switch.
A test light would help you confirm which is the correct wire.

Thanks, Moose10, the reason I was asking was that I blew the fuse checking for the hot wire I've got to take a run to the autoparts store for a new fuse, but just wanted to get it hooked up before I did.

On the fuel pressure gauge- I would definitely NOT bleed the line since the air cushions the pulses from the VP44. So the sender has a much easier life with some air in the line. And you'll read exactly the same pressure with or without air, only that with the air in you'll read them some tenths of a seconsd later.
On the wire: I used the wire that goes to the ash tray light- it does dim and you can't blow a fuse if you wire it up the wrong way (you'd just have ground to ground if you choose the wrong one )
I think you must have had the right wire but there's something amiss with the rest of your gauge wiring. (Like joining the spade connectors of the hot wire and the ground wire at one of the dual spades on the back of the gaude don't ask me how I found out)

Too late on bleeding the line ... made a nice waterfall effect under the hood!

As for the gauge wiring; everything is running fine! I blew the fuse when I was using a test light to figure out which wire I needed to tap. Do you recall which wire you tapped?

piperca:

I have a 99, and it was so long ago I can't remember which wire I used. I do remember that I wired the positive lead from the gauge lights to the positive wire on the light, and negative to negative. It should be very easy to determine which wire is hot with a tester. I tried to look under the dash to see which was which, but I had leg surgery last week and I can't crawl around like I usually do.

I also have the Westach fuel pressure gauge, and I like it a lot. I take it that you mounted the sender OFF the fuel filter can. I tried to mount it directly, and I vibrated the sender to death in the first 2000 miles.

DPG, I mounted the sender to one of the lines coming from the brake boost using rubber hose to protect the line and a couple of hose clamps ... worked out nicely!

I think I'm going to tap the lights into the dimmer fuse, using a fuse tap.
