helix 2...do you HAVE to purchase new springs?

it'd be nice to be able to purchase the cam, install it, and enjoy it. then when more money can be saved, upgrade the springs.

i noticed on F1's website that 'upgraded springs are not a choice' for the helix 3, but no such warning for the helix 2.

is this a possible option til funds can be built up again? or is it an all or nothing deal?

thanks!
Pat

Just talked to the guy in Va (F1 Rep . . .. Tim Barber w/TRE Diesel Performance) today about the Helix II. Unless you're planning on high RPMs (above 3500), or plan on using an exhaust brake, then no, you don't have to have new springs.

They DO STRONGLY recommend one has the OEM springs checked correctly though as a minimum preventative measure.

I'd recomend the springs at the same time as the cam, it'll be less work to do it all at once in the end

On a 24v I do recommend getting the springs with the helix 2. With a 12v it is a little different. However you can run a helix 2 with the stock springs on a 24v. Just trying to keep this clear. Tim

yeah, i was assuming the recommendation would be there. just wanted to know if it could be done in steps...provided one takes the necessary precautions in driving habits before the new springs could be purchased.

thanks all!!

Just to clear this one up. The 24v engines come stock with 60lb springs, which was an upgrade on a 12v if you wished to run an exhaust brake.

So, are you saying its ok to run stock springs on a 12v with the H2, but not on the 24v or, do you have to upgrade your springs on both the 12 and 24v engines?

Apologies if I appear a little thick in the head on this one.

I'm going to go out on a limb here as it was a long time ago that I messed with a 24v but....
IIRC the 24v springs are allot smaller than the 12v ones?
Perhaps they are closer to coil bind than the 12v ones?
