Is A Heat Shield Necessary? I Have A Filter But No Heat Shield And It Seems To Work Fine So! I Was Just Wondering

 

I am guessing your talking about a heat sheild for your air filter? If so no it is not necessary, it probably helps but in a pinch I would not hesitate to run my AFE without the sheild. If you want one the template for making a BHAF shield is on this site somewhere, just don't remember where at the moment.

 

im running my BHAF without one and EGT's don't seem to care. I'm sure a heat shield would let alittle cooler air be drawn in, and i'll do one eventually but for now it's been good w/o.

 

I made up a home made one, didn't even use the BHAF template. In my mind it wasn't something I had to have or else my truck wouldn't run. But I put it on just cause looking at the turbo, and then the filter right there...most of the heat of the engine/turbo would just go back into the filter = less dense air. So then I just made one up quickly and am running that right now.

 

I'm running a BHAF with a heat shield and my EGT's still went up 50 degrees. Your truck will run fine without it, but you will pulling warmer air.
