I found a good deal on a fresh 05 engine. I was told that painless sells a kit to adapt the newer engine into older trucks. Is this correct and if someone has done this how well does this work.

Its not just an adaptor, but its the entire engine harness. All you need is an ECM and you should be ready to go. Thats my guess. They have harnesses to drop an LT1 or LS1 in anything, so Im assuming its the same principle here...

 

I called painless, they just sell a kit for manual trucks. I don't know how much work it would take to get the auto to work. Anybody know how many teeth are on a CR injection pump? I want to know if I can splice into the CR engine speed signal and my tranny would thing that its still my old motor? The TPS sensor look different than mine. Its almost easier to upgrade the entire wiring system to the engine or just put in a stick.

 

Only for manual trans?? Thats funny, their advertisements say "supports 47RE and 48RE transmissions" then under that says "#60250 for 2003-07 standard trans..."

 

I think that you can get the transmission to work but might need a different throttle cable/transmission kick-down module (the one with three bolts on the front on the head) as the connector looks different and I'm sure that mopar changed the TPS sensor. I'm wondering if the ecm talks to the pcm? Will both modules communicate? Other than a couple of sensors it should work. I might have to buy a service manual for the year of the engine/truck so I can trace and adjust my wiring harness to work. Does anybody know if the engine speed sensor is different between the 02 24v and the 05 24v? I appears to be located in the same spot, so my fingers crossed. I found a smoken deal on a fresh 05 24v auto engine at nearly the same cost of a rebuildable 02 core. The VP 24v cores seems to be more $$$ than the other engines.

 

If it's an 05 motor, wont it be expecting a TV motor for the trans instead of a kick down cable they stoped in 04. Might not matter but I though I would throw that out there.
