Hard hot starts with my 2000 dodge.
I just want to thank all on this forum for all the information I have been using with my truck. I am new to the forum and have been reading past post from folks with a similar problem that I encountered this past week. I installed a FASS DDRP on my 2000 dodge diesel. Truck has 85,000 miles on it. I wasn't having problems with the truck but new that the stock lift pumps can be a problem so I decided to change it out with an aftermarket unit before it went out and/or took the injector pump with it. I wanted to nip any potential problem in the bud. What I ended up with was a hard hot restart. After reading several posts on the forum I realized that the IP doesn't like 20#'s of pressure on a hot restart. So today I wired in a relay using the power side of my power seat circuit, since I don't have power seats and that circuit turns off when in the start mode. Used the power circuit that was supplying the voltage to the FASS to turn the relay on and off and presto, works great.
So a big thank you to all that gave their advice on past posts.
Best to all, Wes Hawkins

Your VP is lossing its prime. I've run the fass150 for nearly a decade. most of my hard starts are from the VP bleeding down. I would make sure everything is tight. The connector oring/cross orings are easily damaged if you have just changed injectors. You running the stock fuel filter or bypassing it?
Mike
I looked for leaks when I was finished installing the pump after having the hot restart issue and found none. If it is loosing its prime why was I not having this problem before I installed the FASS pump. I am using the stock fuel filter, nothing was taken apart from the filter to the injector pump. I mounted the pump back on the frame rail in front of the fuel tank. Since I have wired in the relay it has worked perfectly, starts instantly with the turn of the key hot or cold and has excellent power.
Thanks for helping.
Take care, Wes
