hand throttle
maybe some of you guys up north can give me some info on hand throttles. I have heard of people installing them so that there truck will run at high rpm to warm up in the morning while the owner is inside the warm house.
Has anyone ever tried to use it as a cruise control? My truck has no cruise control on it and thought this could be cheap and easy. I realize its not as precise as a CC because of steep inclines, (speeding on the way down, or slowing on the way up) but it seems to me its a good lazy, cheap way out of a CC. It would prolly only be used without a load on long trips.
I understand that u can install it and still operate the foot accelerator pedal. Is this true? if so how? Can i get any old throtle lever from autozone or does it have to be special? I was just wondering if anyone had comments or warnings about it.
Am i completely out of my mind or is this a good idea?
lol........thats a lot of questions
any info would be greatly appreciated.
thanks, peanut

Comment: You're nuts!
Warning: Whatcha gonna do when you have to stop quick? It'll be like trying to stop with your foot on the gas. This is not safe at all, please don't do it.
Most hand throttles attach to the gas pedal using ball chain (like the pull chain on a light fixture in your basement. This means that you can push the gas pedal down farther than the hand throttle is set without binding any linkage. So yes, you can set the engine to idle at, say 1000 RPM and intermittently rev the engine to 2500 RPM using the gas pedal.

I agree.... use as a cruise is a BAD IDEA!!
Column mounted throttles we commonly referred to as cruise controls when we would highway the old farm tractors to town or between fields.... it was dangerous at best. At worst..just use your imagination. Now multiply that 50X for your truck....
