H1C Turbo on a 98?

The other day i was pokin around under the hood ov my 98 and noticed the little tag on the turbo. I was expecting it to say something about being an HX35W or something to that effect. To my suprise it only said H1C on it. I was under the impression that this turbo was only run on the first gen 12Vs. My exhaust housing is wastegated and all appears to be stock. Just wondering if I am missinformed or if someone has pulled a switch before i owned the truck.

Yes, you should have the HX35, but someone probably had to replace yours before. They are just as good of a turbo, just a few things different about them.

Is it just an "H1C" or a "WH1C"?

Did it have a silencer ring? If so, it's probably the same 56mm compressor as the HX35. The difference between the WH1C and HX35 is in how the compressor housing attaches to the center cartridge.

The tag on the turbo only said it was anH1C but the exhaust housing is wastegated. I was hoping it was an actual H1C but the ex housing is noticably smaller than the one on my neighbors 1990 model. The cold side is clamped on. The silencer ring was already gone if it even had one.

I don't think the H1C had a silencer ring, like the WH1C or HX35.

94's had a h1c with a 12cm wastegated housing and no h1c's had silences rings.

94's should have the WH1C, which came with the 12cm wastegated housing, 56mm compressor, and silencer ring.

the h1c is twice the turbo as the hx35 i ran a h1c on my 97 12v which dynoed at 689hp, i had a h1c on there and went to a hx40 hated it, went back to a hx 35 with a 16 housing shattered the houding and threw the fins out the exhaust in about 7 miles, had another h1c built and ran 65 lbs boost and pulled it for 2 years in 5th gear in a six speed, great streetable turbo and great performance, slap a 16 housing and go. just my 2 cents worth. by the way the first h1c i sold is still running and has about 460,000 miles on it.
