Which gauges to use

I just bought a A-piller 3 gauge pod. I was thinking of having a trans temp, pyro, and fuel pressure, but I see people having a boost gauge. Why one over the other?
By the by, this forum is a life saver. I asked the last owner about the KTP. He looked at me like I had 2 heads. So I opened it up, and what do I see? that dumb little dowel pin half way out. Thanks!!!!

Somebody will correct me if I'm wrong, but on a 12V you are probably better off with a boost guage than a fuel pressure guage. Or even better if you are flush with cash and time, get all four!

To answer your question, fuel pressure just is not an issue on a 12V with a mechanical LP, certainly not as important as with an electric LP and a VP44.

Boost is more fun to watch too.

JP.

Exactly,
On the 24v you have to be able to moniter your fuel preasure so you know when the lift pump go's out. On a 12v you don't have to watch the fuel presure nearly as close. The boost guage is good for diagnosing boost leaks. My suggestion is if you have a 12v get a boost guage, if you have a 24v get a Fuel psi guage or just get both. Please fill in your sig so we can better help you. By the way Welcome to the DTR guys.

Do both the fp and boost. Install the fp gauge under the dash near the center. If I was limited to just three gauges hands down it would be fp over boost.
A fp gauge on a 12 valve is more valuable than a boost gauge for diagnostics.

Another advantage of a fp gauge is that can demonstrate filter plugging that may leave you stuck on the side of the road. It only takes one bad tank to plug a filter.
A boost leak won't leave you stuck.
Using your fp to monitor filter condition also eliminates needless filter changes saving you time and money. The gauge will pay for itself quickly.

That was my thoughts, but maybe I will but the fuel down under the dash.

I put my fuel pressure gauge under the dash.
It was easier to route the fuel line, felt safer by being able to watch the line for leaks, and it just needs to watched occasionally on a 12 valve - I use it to monitor my fuel filter.

BTW
Even with adjusting the needle valve I still get some needle vibration - at least down below the dash it does not bother me the way it probably would up on the a-pillar.

What range of FP guage did you get? Most guage packages Ive seen have 0-15 psi or 0-30 psi FP guages...with a 12V you should have 0-60 psi.

I have not bought any gauges of yet. I have been looking around at ones. It's good to know that I will need a 0-60 psi fuel gauge.

Have a look at www.dieselmanor.com - they are just about the cheapest around. That being said, a 0-60 psi FP guage will really limit which manufacturers you can go with as its not a real common range.

We have the new awesome looking DiPricol Optix gauges black and white face. 0-30 PSI or 0-100 PSI. They are sitting on the shelf just waiting for you! Photos are on our web site.

A 100 psi gauge is too much, find a 60.
Even with a 12 valve your readings will be on the lower end of the scale and the markings will be several psi apart.

While they are nice guages, either one isnt the correct range for a 12V...
