Gauge sender placement???
I just received my Westach gauges and wondered if attaching the sending unit directly to the top of the fuel filter housing would cause any problems? The instructions from Geno's indicate that is the correct installation, but I wondered if the vibration of the engine would reduce the sender's life expectancy?
I think that the vibrations from the engine make for a hard life on senders. I would get some brass fittings and hose and mount them remotely. I made a bracket out of sheet meatal and large hose clamps for my senders and mounted it to the fire wall.
A lot of people use a grease gun hose from most any auto parts store. They're built to withstand thousands of pounds of pressure, compatable with diesel and have the same threads as your sender. You may also need a 1/8" 90° elbow or 1/8" coupling.
Thanks for the info, guys!
Just one more question
What is a good source for the ground? I'm installing a Westach EGT/boost (combo gauge) and a fuel pressure on a dual pod A pillar mount. What color is the wire I need to tap into on the dimmer switch?
I guess that was two questions

piperca,
On my 2000, I think I tapped the tan wire out of the back of the light switch. Better ckeck it with a test light though, I don't trust my memory any more!
As far as the ground, I actually ran a seperate ground wire in from the battery to a grounding block and then used that for all my grounding needs in the cab. I also did this under the hood as well. Seems that with the grounding issue one hears about with these trucks, you can't be too careful.
