gauge question
gauge question
well im going to ask for a set of gauges for christmas and wasnt sure weather to get mechanical or electronic what kind do you guys run and how do you like it? by the way im planning on getting autometer ultralite 60lb. boost, pyro, and trans temp.
I like my Dipricol on the dash, they are all mechanical. My boy and me like watching them at night when we're hauling something. Just watching the hands go up and down.......simple pleasures!!

US Diesel even has an Autometer gauge package:

I have both Autometer and Isspro, both are good (and both have had issues), Diesel Manor also has a gauge kit with all Isspro gauges:

For the tranny temp and EGT, most guys run electrical. The boost gauge is usually mechanical.
For a 24-valve, most people run a mechanical fuel pressure gauge, with no isolator. Electric fuel pressure gauges are great and easy to install, but when you get an erratic reading the problem is that you're always chasing down issues with the isolator or sending unit. On a 12-valve, fuel pressure is not that critical to monitor because the lift pumps on these engines are very reliable.

Either range should be OK. Mine is the one that came with the Isspro gauge package, it runs 100-280. I think the most common recommendation that transmission experts make is to pull over and let the trans cool down if the temp reaches 200-220.
