Gauge install quote

Just called a local diesel shop here in town, and to get my boost, EGT, fuel pressure and oil pressure installed was $170.00. Is that a pretty decent price, if not or even if it is, should I tackle this job myself. I've done all my own work before on this truck but just need some opinions. Whatcha think guys? cumminsboy

That sounds like a fair price if they do good work. But nothing beats the "did it myself" feeling

Very good price, I've heard of people being quoted $250 for install only of just pyro and boost guages.

Do it yourself, gauges are honestly an easy install with proper directions.

The most tedious part is probably drilling and tapping the exhaust manifold.

Do it yourself aint bad as long as you don't get the Autometer mechanical Trans temp gauge.
The prob is to big to easily fit down between the dash and the side of the truck.
As it turns out I bought a new line from Massdiesel only to find out that it's not a new line but a used one that had been fitted with a blue anodized fitting with a makeshift port that is too small for my temp prob!
Just make sure you get the electronic gauge so you don't have to deal with these problems.
I still don't have the trans temp gauge working!!!!!
Needless to say I'm not a happy camper!

I got the instructions from DPPI. Check out the links and many have instructions you can just print off. I have a pic. in my gallery now of my T-cop installation. Works very slick! I am going to upload another gauge pic I took thismorning, of them lit up. I just have to get to the camera in a little while. I removed the turbo (actually just pulled it out far enough to push cardboard over the studs and insert a shop rag into the manifold), stepped up drills to the correct size for tapping 1/4" NPT. Wish now I had gotten an 1/8" t-cop instead, but everything seems to be working fine anyway. I made a small cardboard insert to position the t-cop tip halfway down in the exhaust runner for best flow temp. Really was very easy. I had more trouble getting the 15mm socket on the lower rear turbo stud nut than any other part!

Just pop over the engine for a while (with turbo inlet covered) to blow out any errant chips, and then bolt everything back up!

I installed mine, it took a lot longer than expected. We didnt have the exact tools and had a little bit of a hard time finding the NPT fitting with the right thread count. I think we used a 17. zulusafari is right on about moving the turbo to get all the shavings out. I vacumed mine out with shop vac and a little hose adapter i made to get down to them. I would go through the maniforld for the EGT. My brother had one post turbo and we moved in when we did mine and it made a huge difference. I got a little custome made fitting for the trany temp, the one that came with the gauge didn't fit. That took a little time to go and get. One other thing that you may want to watch out for is don't over tighten the hose for the boost. It is such a small tube it could be done very easily.

I did the same as Zulusafari....worked fine. Good instructions on www.dieselpage.com and I think TST has some also.

I called a local shop today and they quoted me $655 for pyro, tranny temp and boost on the A-pillar...wow!

I'm planning on doing my own - especially compared to that price.

I did my own, I'm sure I'd trust any shop to be as careful as I was not getting any chips into the turbo when drilling and tapping the hole for the pyro. Time consuming to hook them all up in the pillar mount, but not hard.
