Gauge Installation Quote
Gauge Installation Quote
I just got a quote for a set of gauges. Almost fell opff my rocker.
Here it is:
Boost gauge $80
Trans temp $223
EGT $226
Triple A pillar gauge pod $50
$40 an hour, and probally 4-6 hours install time.
Total is $933 (Canadian) including taxes.
Does anyone think that is a ridiculously high price?

LOL, WAY too high!
I spent about $300 on mine(EGT, Boost, Trans Temp), and $65 on the high temp line from diesel manor....
Installed them all myself one afternoon after work.
One thing to make it easy, put the guages in the pod and make the wiring harness before you get it in the truck, leave enough length for the trans temp, and ign hot/ light powers.
Oh, and get a boost bolt, no drilling/tapping the intake horn

The Quad Commander includes everything you need to read all parameters but fuel press. For that you need the optional FP kit. I like analog the best, visually, but I have a Commander because for the money, you get a lot.
i got a deal on mine, guy quoted me $50 to install A pillar with westach boost/egt when i dropped it off he said he thought it was one gauge and it would take longer, so of course i thought he is gonna bump the $ on me. so i go back to get it and he charged me $45

Install was not quite "very easy" though, but I got it done in a weekend.

I think everyone is a little nervous about drilling the manifold on their brand new truck.
Some say to drill it with the engine running so all the crap will blow out, some like to drop the turbo,I tried but couldn't get a socket or wrench with enough leverage to get at one of the inside bolts.
First thing I did was remove the inner fender and rt front tire to make it easier to get at. Then I drilled a small pilot hole using grease on the bit, this traps the filings, clean it off, regrease and keep drilling. Then go to a bigger bit and repeat, eventually you'll have your hole drilled, then I took off the air cleaner, spun the turbo with my finger to make sure there was nothing jamming it, then I fired up the engine with the hole open to blow anything out that mighta fallen in.
Then use the same thing with the grease on the bit while tapping, spin turbo and blow it out when done. Worked fine for me.
Finding the proper place to connect lights, power etc was a pain, I used the cig lighter for power so you need to pull the middle section of dash apart. I put pics in my gallery.
I think anyone who's used to working on their vehicles could do the job.
Also, where 'bouts in Canada are you? (I'm near Vancouver BC)
