Fuel Pump taking a dump? Who knows how to tell?
I have an 01 cummins and was toying with the idea of putting on a pressure guage in the cab. Well I came across a good deal on a light kit from a local diesel shop. I installed the kit (on the banjo fitting at the inj. pump)and the light came on and wouldn't go off when I fired up my truck.(Supposed to only come on when there is less than four pounds of pressure) I checked the install and everyting was right so I changed the fuel filter. Now, my truck will not start at all. Acts like the fuel pump isn't putting enough pressure to completely fill the filter housing. Lift Pump sounds a little different than it used to. Truck ran great and I had no problems until now. Just drove it last night(200miles) and no probs. Could the fuel pump be weak and the truck was running fine due to a siphoning effect helping out? I don't have a guage to check my pressure at the two schrader valve ports. Anyone have any ideas? Exactly what are the symptomes of a weak lift pump? I don't think it roasted inj. pump. Any prefered brands of lift pumps? Thanks for the help!
