fuel pump idea

i was thinkin the other day and had an idea popped up in my head. could you take a low pressure light system and instead of having it turn the light on, run it to a relay that would turn on another fuel pump. Like when your fuel pressure got too low, it would kick on another pump to boost the fuel pressure instead of turning on the light in the cab? i dont know how you would put the pumps, inline or run seperate lines. this may be a stupid idea but thought it was cool and was wantin to know if it would work.

its possible, but is the pump that kicks on another stock pump? how would you know if that one is dead?

if the pump that kicks on is a more capable, reliable pump than why not plumb that directly into the fuel system and ditch the stock unit?

good idea olwhitey. I do, however, think people would just get an aftermarket to handle everything. Your idea would be **** handy for an "emergency backup" to get the truck home if something happened.

Thats how the rasp, mitusa, and their clones work. A hobbs switch activated the lift pump if pressure drops too low. Tried and true.
