Fuel pressure and test port
This is a two part post.

1. I found out something interesting while plumbing my fuel pressure gauge today. The Schrader valve on the input line to the injection pump sure looked familiar to me. I knew I had seen the valve on other cars and trucks before but couldn't figure where. Then it hit me. The old R12 A/C units used the same valve! I started digging through the junk box in the garage and finally found my old R12 re-charge valve and hose assembly. I cut the hose off at the can connector/valve. This left me with a hose and a factory crimped Schrader valve attached. It was just the right length to reach the isolator! I put a stainless hose barb/1/8" NPT fitting on it and hooked her up! It works great! No leaks. I'm gonna keep an eye on it to make sure the material is compatible with fuel. Don't throw away those old R12 re-charge kits! I'm always getting a hard time from my girlfriend about being a packrat. I love it when it pays off.

2. Now for the second part. At idle the pressure shows about 13-14. At WOT it drops to 4.5 to 5. It's a '02 H/O with less than 10K on the ODO. Is this normal? Sounds low to me. Is it something to do with using the Schrader valve on the injection pump as the test port? This pressure is after the filter. I haven't changed the filter since I took delivery. Waddyathink guys?
Re:Fuel pressure and test port
Don't sound right! 13 to 14 psi sounds good but 4 to 5 ?
I don't think it should drop that much with just an EZ, your not holding back on me are you?
My new pump reads 15 to 16 idle and I have not seen it drop below 11 to 12 even at WOT. ???

Re:Fuel pressure and test port
I don't think Dodge will replace it with that high psi @ idle.
I would just run it and watch the psi's it may drop off as time goes by. It sounds to me like the pump is getting weak.
You do have a clean fuel filter on don't you?

Re:Fuel pressure and test port
As I said in the post, the fuel filter is the original that came on the truck. It has 9,300 miles on it. That's the first thing I'm gonna do, change the filter. It would make sense that the filter is restricting flow if the pressure is ok at low flow and drops way down at high flow. Thanks for the comments. I'll let you know if it changes after the filter change.
Well... I changed the filter. It got a little better. The idle pressure is 14. The WOT pressure is 6. The filter looked clean. I guess I'll just drive it and see what happens.
