Injectors Installed
Injectors Installed
Had some decent weather so installed my 275 injectors over the weekend.

Suprises: With only 64K miles on the truck I was surprised to see how dirty the old injectors were. Lots of carbon built up on the injector tip and nozzle holes. It didn't appear any were plugged but have to wonder how they would look after another 64K.

Recommendations fr anyone planning on doing this job for the first time: Cut a 3/8 inch slot out of a 19mm or 3/4 inch box end wrench. This will help immensly in extracting the #6 injector line at the head - very little room to work under the cowel at the rear of the engine.

Also, after replacing the first four injectors, I reinstalled the plenum which has the oil dip stick bolted to it. Working on 5 & 6 I was leaning/laying on the front of the engine and plenum. Well I ended up braking the handle off of the oil dip stick. So your tip is remove the dip stick first!

Job took about 3 hours and truck seems to run much stronger. ;D

Re:Injectors Installed
You know, I managed to do it without taking the plenum off. I know you're supposed to, but I found I could get an open-end wrench on #2 & #3, and they turned nicely. Also removed the valve cover first and was able to get to #5 & #6 without much hassle.

Of course, the secret was a twenty-foot multi-ladder set in a scaffolding position -- two ends on either side of the fenders, and the central scaffold across the open engine compartment -- me lying across it and simply reaching down.

GP

I tried without removing the plenum but found it to be a hassle so just removed the 4 bolts and moved it aside about 4 inches. A couple of my injector lines were so tight I had to use a breaker bar with the crows foot to break them loose.
That #6 was one of them. After I ground the 3/8 notch out of the box end wrench so I could get it over the line, I was able to back the bolt out with short strokes which probably saved me about 10 minutes of frustration.

Of course now that I have done this job once, next time will be much easier but I did tell myself as I was sprawled accross the engine bay "why am I doing this, the truck runs great already". Now that it's all done I am all smiles...
