Fuel Pressure Seems Low

I know that the topic has been beat to death but after the install of a 0 - 30 psi Westach fuel pressure gauge I am showing 10 - 12 psi at idle, 8 - 10 with a light foot and 2 - 4 dropping the hammer.

The gauge setup is a tapped Banjo at the VP which runs via a hose to a sending unit at the firewall then to the gauge. I called dodge and they will do a flow test on the LP. I don't want the intake replacement if possible. Should I be concerened at this point....I have been babying the truck all morning worried. Like I said, driving "normal" I see about 8 - 10 psi.

I am at 62k and four years.

Thanks!

no need to baby it. as long as it is above 5 you are fine ive heard. just dont floor it everytime time as it is obviously choking out.

Thanks jimmyCTD, I appreciate the input. I am contemplating going to a dealer but I am afraid they will say "well, it pased the flow test...75.00 please". I am looking into something cheaper than the FASS that will give me higher pressures....any suggestions?

Dealer would force the in-tank pump on you anyway.

You could try the "campaign pump" from cummins,
under $70 and supposed to be better than the original.

Sorry, don't have a part number, but a search should find it.

Hey Phox THANKS! You always have a quick, honest reply! BTW, what pressures do you see? I (when the good Lord knows when) will put a multi-meter on the sending unit to check the output of the sending unit vs. the specs to make sure that it shows correct at the gauge (i.e. that the output of the sending unit matches the gauge calibration in milli-ohms/psi). All should be o.k. however as it is a new unit. I will search for "campaign pump".

Thanks again!

Mine's dropped a bit over the past 2 years since I got the guage.

14 idle, 10 cruise, 8-9 WOT.

Used to not get below 10.

I have the in tank LP pump and I used to be able to get below 5 psi at will, just had to add skinny pedal. Now I have the same stock in tank LP and have no pressure issues at any load or RPM. What did I change? Got rid of all those restrictive banjo bolts and put on a Scotty Fuel Line kit. The banjo bolts are very restrictive. I posted pics here before and after, and posted pics of the banjo bolts next to the Scotty fittings. You need to look into this system.

I think my numbers are 13 @ idle, 9-10 @ 70-75mph with or without trailer and floorboard, well it takes a long time to pull it down, even with a load, I think the lowest I have seen to date is around 7ish. I'm going for the Vulcan big line kit in a couple weeks then see what it does to the fp.

Thanks guy's! Now, whats youre opinion on me going to DC (I am still under warranty) and explaining to them that if I get on the pedal as in highway acceleration it drops below whats good for the vp (2-4 psi) and ask for a new LP regardless of what type of flow test they do. I could even let them drive it to prove that the LP is going south. Do you think that would consider a replacement? Surely if a tech drove my truck in a normal fashion on and off the highway and saw that the pressure are too low they would know that the vp is at risk. They do know all this stuff we do.......don't they?
