Fuel Pressure Gauge Install

I have read about a lot of unique places to splice into the fuel system to get a good fuel pressure reading, post and pre LP. The one place I have not seen is hooking the sender directly to the Fuel Pressure Test Port on the VP44. That is what I was planning on doing with my truck because it seems so simple, but is there a reason that nobody is doing this?

I did read about someone doing that and I they basically said the same thing. As long as your are between the lift pump and the IP (which you are) it should not matter.

Yes, there is a reason - that reason is that the test port isnt the best sample point. Its a good idea to leave the test port free to verify your guage reading.

On a 00 to 2002 the best place to sample is the bottom of the fuel filter. Youll need a tapped banjo bolt, a needle valve, some fuel line and a guage.

This is what it should look like:

Thanks to Moose10 for the excellent pics

Thanks for the great pics. So with it tapped into the bottom of the fuel filter, wouldn't that give me a pre-LP reading? I have been under the impression that post LP would the best so you know when your LP is goin out or filter gets clogged. Second question now is how much fuel line should I use after the needle valve before I attach the FP sender?

Judging by the pic Dr. posted, that is the post filter port. You can see the LP in the background of the pic, and the fuel line the banjo bolt taps into looks to be going to the front of the engine.

If you're using an electric gauge, I'd skip the needle valve and just put the sender right into the banjo bolt. Thats the way mine is, it doesn't jump around, and I haven't had any problems with it killing the sending unit, been that way for over a year now.

Yes, bottom of the fuel filter is post filter.

Sorry, that setup is for a mechanical gauge.

Trumm, any guage supplier will be able to supply you with a tapped banjo bolt.
