Fuel pressure gauge install problem

Hello All,

I received my Isspro gauges and Rod Pod from Rod at Wildcat diesel over the holidays. This morning I did some searches before meeting the local Cummins mechanic for the first time.
Well, my problem is the mechanic won't install the mechanical Isspro FP gauge like Rod and I planned [fuel directly to the gauge]. He insists I use an isolator.

So my question is how much of Rod's install kit is still useful? More specifically, can I use the fuel line he included with the FP gauge package he sells [rubber? not SS braided]? Is the line too thick for an isolator or is just a matter of buying connectors that fit?

I saw in a search the Grainger part number for the needle valve I need, thanks for that. I need a part number for the world's greatest isolator, which I'm not crazy about using.
Is everyone who uses an isolator running antifreeze to the gauge? Any other fluids I should consider?

Happy new year and thanks for this great resource. I'm really enjoying my first diesel [second Ram].

Rick

from a liability standpoint I would never hook fuel directly into a customers cab, however on my own I would. Of course if he were to install the gauge and the fittings and show you how to "hook it up to read the gauge, but only for diagnostic purposes and recommend that you not leave it hooked up for extended periods of time" then it would be your prob....maybe.

what is the reason for not doing it yourself? i would hook it up straight to the guage, a good steel braid line isn't going to break or anything. i don't think it is perfectly legal, but just tell the inspector guy that you had to pay 350 dollars for an isolator and he will probably believe you. that is if he even asks.just do it, its not that hard i don't think.

I've seen many many, more posts of isolators going bad, than of gauges leaking.

3+ years.....not a drop.

Either that or the diapham breaks and it's the same as with no isolator, I'll bet a lot of folks have this condition and don't even know it.

The law varies between states whether a FP gauge can be sold or installed without an isolator. Like J BODY said just have him do the install without connecting up the line to the filter, do the last connection yourself.

I personally haven't had problems with a isolator not saying they are bulletproof but if guage's does leak which it does happen rarely good luck cleaning that up if you take to a detail shop they will charge you three times what an isolator costs to remove carpet and rid cab of smell

Thanks Razor, I'll call Piers tomorrow and get the kit from them. Anyone need a fuel gauge kit that came directly from Wildcat?
