Fuel Pressure Gauge
Fuel Pressure Gauge
This maybe a dumb question but, has anyone had a problem with running a mechanical FP Gauge into their cab? If I'm not mistaken that is running fuel into the cab of the truck right? Has anyone run a gauge and kept it under the hood, or does a fuel gauge require constant monitoring? Where is the best place to monitor fuel pressure? I realize these are odd questions, but I have them either way. I want to put in a FP gauge, but I not sure the best way to do it. Thanks for all your help.
Lots of people run mech gauges into the cab. Many use an isolator, which uses antifreeze between the gauge and the isolator. Others just plumb it straight in. You want the gauge some where you can see it all the time. Up on the pillar is easy enough to do. The most important time to monitor the pressure is at WOT under load, when pressure drops the most. Tough to see the gauge if its under the hood. I've got mine plumbed in on the banjo bolt after the filter on the filter housing, but you can have it pre filter, or right on the VP44. You'll need a needle valve, or something similar, to dampen the pulses from the pump, so it won't jump around too erratically.
Best if you can monitor FP under load, which means not under the hood.
I'm sure that some people have leaks but with just basic plumbing skills you'll have no problem. Main thing that causes leaks is overtightening. It's best to avoid teflon tape on the threads and use Permatex #2 to seal threads.
Many people install a $4 needle valve at the engine end of the gauge line and turn it almost all the way closed to dampen any gauge pulsations or noise. This also serves as a means to shut down any leaks.
Both my 12 valves have had fuel in cab gauges for almost ten years, not one drip.

Ive been running a mechanical FP Gauge in cab for three years now and never had a problem. since you have a 2001 you could get a hose and fitting from Genos Garage that screws on to the test port on injection pump.http://www.genosgarage.com/CoastalDa...D=1747&CATID=1
