You need a lift pump. Do a search on FASS, and you will find a lot of info on fuel systems. Your goal is to constantly provide a large volume of fuel, at a pressure between 13-16 psi, to the VP-44. This will go a long way to keeping your injection pump happy.

Yea it sounds like yours is dying. If i were you i'd look into a Walbro system. I've heard they perform as well as the FASS just cheaper or the Holley blues work like a charm on mine so far. (cheaper too)
