Fuel Plate question

Can someon explain exactly what a fuel plate is and the difference between the different numbers. Also, do these plates hurt the fuel economy of the engine, or help it. Also, if there is anything else that I need to know about this mod, please inform me because I don't to make a $9000 mistake, and have to put another motor in.

Hello there...

Ill try to answer your question...

Torque plates.... ok this is a torque plate right here... https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...=500&page=1

More commonly reffered to as fuel plates, they come in different numbers to explain how "aggressive" (for lack of a better term at the moment) that they are 10, 8, 6, 5, 0, and 100, zero being a flatt plate that bombards the pump with fuel, and a 100 being a ten plate curve with no top end defueling, much like the zero.. The one you see there is my banks plate, screwy yes, i know, i dont get it myself. that plate goes in the P7100 injector pump, It goes under what is called the AFC housing, which has a little starwheel on it, the starwheel can be accessed with the removal of the hex dealy using the the right hex head size plug, and u loosen it for more smoke, and better lower end, and tighten it for the inverse. Use a good screwdriver.... furthermore... You will see four screws there where the starwheel is, two that are flatt, one that is possibly a breakoff screw that can be a real PITA to remove, take a hammer and good screwdriver and bang the tar outta it, it will come off, if that fails, left hand drill bit... Looking down the driver side, the top left hand is the breakaway, and the top right is a regular screw as well, the bottom two are 8mm bolts and you need to get around to one that is in the back of the AFC housing that holds that fuel shutdown solenoid in place...

Which one is right for you.. id say the ten if you are not gonna be that aggressive with it, but the 100 is downright WICKED!! that be the one to go with, the zero is just too much at the low end for me but for dynos and racin, its awesome!.. The zero, PM Northslope AWESOME AWESOME WORK, and ull be helpin out a fellow DTR member, and the zero plate you can grind yourself, well you can do either or, but PM northslope do a search for plate grinding, started by gunracer1.. good instructions..

best of luck and enjoy the new ride...

New friend

WELCOME TO DTR!! as far as the plates hurting your economy, probably not, They will not hurt your engine, infact it will become downright addicting tryin to get the power outta the truck that you can.. YOUR FIRST INVESTMENT THOUGH incase you are gonna change out a plate is a good set of gauges, i dunno if u have them yet, also if regardless, if you have a manny tranny or an auto, u need to have some tranny work done to beef it up, these cummins engines can really produce some massive TQ numbers.. and tranny work is a must if ur gonna BOMB hard

BOMB is a common term around here (Better off modified baby!) which refers to anything that is added as an enhancement to the truck.. whether cosmetic, or mechanical

My experience here, Ok i have a banks plate, (the plate in my pic) full forward at the moment, and i get 18 mpg on average if i drive it right, approx 330 or so RWHP and bout 800 plus RWTQ.. STOCK clutch. BUT IT SLIPS IF I GUN IT...

Southbend makes a good clutch and is highly thought of here..

Anyways, pm me if u have any more questions or look to more experienced members than me on here, I learned from them, and well for that im indebt to many of them, if i start to name them, i dont think id finish..

Thanks. I guess that since all of this is new to me, its a little confusing, but thats true with almost everything new. You definately cleared some things up with me so now i understand what these things are. Also I have a stock auto tranny, but i am going to upgrade whether being a totally new one or rebuilt with better parts cause I know how these trannys are. I am looking into the 3 guages (boost, pyro, tranny) but I need to get some funds up for those.i was more curious about these plates and wanted to see what the deal with them were. Thanks again!!! This site is awesome!
