Front drive shaft
I am reposting this from another thread because I do need some advice soon please.
Life is life and nothing is perfect.
Not even my new aux tranny install. Discovered small problem. The foront drive shaft, being longer now (the transfer case moved back about 12 inches, to allow the tranny to be bolted between the stock tranny and it) on a full extension of the suspension (like when you hit a large depresion in the road) touches the cross member that holds the tranny (stock) in place. The cross members has to be nothched a bit to accomodate this. No big deal except I do not have the time to have it donne. My trip to Tacoma has moved up two days, MY SON IS COMING HOME FROM IRAQ two days earlier. This week I have a lot of loose ends to tie up before I leave next Tuesday, and this work will need at least two days in the shop. So I am thinking the following: Is there any reason why I should not just remove the front drive shaft for this trip, I really do not expect needing 4 wheel drive, and have it all done right when I get back?
I appreciate any input. Thanks.
Peter

Im not sure if your uses the vacum disconnect like my 95. I dont see an issue doin it. If I remember with the vac disconnect set up the front dont spin in 2wd anyhow. yank er out. BTW, hope your son is home to stay and doin great!!
I've run without a front driveshaft at times. Other times I've run without the rear shaft. I wouldn't recommend it long-term, but running without the front driveshaft won't hurt the truck at all.

Even if it is an early 2002 with the CAD, it shouldn't matter.
I removed mine for a week chasing down a vibe, and had no problems.

GOOD NEWS
I took the truck in this morning to have the front driveshaft removed. The service manager looked at the problem and said he'll have the whole thing done by late lunch time, so I do not have to go without 4X4 on the trip. AND HE DID HAVE IT FINISHED. He did not even charge me for this additional work.
Now I am ready for the trip, I am so excited, almost like a little kid (I think I'm geting old, do not tell anyone.) God willing everything else will go well.
PS Thanks for the prompt advice, it is much appreciated

Oh, sorry about that.
They supprted the tranny assemblies, took off the cross member and notched it , just a bit not much was needed, took off the drive shaft and checked it to make sure it was not damaged. Put it all back and lifted the truck by the frame letting the suspention fully exted to make sure there were no more clearance problems.
