03 Front drive shaft

I just recently purchase a '03 2500 4x4 and I really like this truck. I noticed that driving on 2WD the front drive shaft is turning (seems like the 4wd is engaged). Is this normal?

It's normal on the 02's. That's when it was changed.

That's the DC "automatic MPG reducer" - the new trucks were found to be too economical to operate, so in addition to the added weight and complexity the 4WD provides, they fixed it so all that hardware has to spin whether it's actually being used or not - also has the beneficial effect of steady wear rates, regardless of actual engagement...

Pretty nifty, eh?

I also heard it makes quite a roar as opposed to the non-rotating drivetrain, but I've nothing to compare it against.
