Fooling the Computer
Fooling the Computer
Ok, I bought the TST Powermax adjustable. I leave it on 9 all the time, so its a Powermax 3 essentially. But I have since learned both on and off this forum, that it is a very conservative box in terms of adding fuel before must boost is up. In fact the TST products all have a carb EO #, so that gives you an idea how gentle they fuel before boost (almost no smoke at all). I should have gotten the Edge Comp, which has submenus to control the rate of fuel increase off the bat, but whats done is done, and I think I might know a way to get what I want. Which by the way, is fuel NOW. Like the old mechanical pumps, put your foot to the floor and youve got all the the fuel right away, smokes like crazy till the boost comes up then cleans up (which is a catch 22 since when you do that you get your boost even faster). So here is what I want to do: limit the lower end of the voltage of the map sensor, so the lowest it goes electrically is equal to say 5 or 7 pounds of boost. The PM will think boost is up allready and slam the fuel to it. My question is, will the ECU have a fit if it thinks there is 7 pounds of boost at idle???? Set a code???

Re:Fooling the Computer
I dunno a heck of a lot about how they work, but my PM3, with stock injectors, can put some smoke out. I figure it'll put out a lot more after I put them super duper nuclear shower heads in there. ;D
But why do I want smoke, I have asked myself. If I'm making smoke I'm NOT making the power I could be.
I like how my PM3 works.

Re:Fooling the Computer
OK so about 45 inHga
Doesent matter since I am going to remove the MAP sensor, connect a temporary air line to it, regulated at 7 Psig, and measure the voltage, then duplicate that voltage when installed.
I guess I'll just try. Whats the worse that can happen anyway.... just set a code maybe that I cant clear......
Battering Ram, Question on the Comp version of the TST: did you notice a big difference? And how do you go about updating it?

Re:Fooling the Computer
Here is something else to think about.
According to 3 different OBD-2 scanners my truck shows 53 inhg with the just the key on, at 6000 feet. When I adjusted the MAP voltage down to achieve 35inhg, I got a MAP out of range error.

I started out with the comp so I can't compare to the regular version... but its arguably the most agressive fueling box on the market. Push Rod can give you more specific info if you wanted. Also you have to send it in to get the upgrade.
