Finally going to order stack parts, what about downpipe?

Finally going to order stack parts, what about downpipe?

I finally have enough frog skins to order parts for stacks, but I want them to perform as well as look cool. Is it any benefit to run or fab up a 4" downpipe? I was looking at it today and it looks like the exh. opening is 3" on the turbo anyway, so I might as well run a 4"-3" adapter a few inches after the downpipe If I expand to 4" a few inches after the downpipe, and run 4" all the way to the Y in the bed, will it offer any egt relief? Will it sacrifice spool up that close to the turbo?

Thanks, folks...

is this for your '94? you'll probably be fine just going to 4" after the downpipe, but if you want to go to 4" as close to the turbo as possible, it'll be beneficial.

it'll spool up quicker

Hmmmmmm...... Yeah, its for the 94. I am planning on adding 300 injectors next spring, as well as some turbo tweaks. I want to build the exhaust to it now. Anyone know how hard it is to make your own downpipe?

building your own downpipe isn't difficult at all IMHO... after building turbo systems on cars for years, building the 4" downpipe for my HX40 was a breeze... there's SO MUCH ROOM!!!

Could I run a 3-4" adapter right off of where the downpipe clamps on or do I have to rig up a whole new piece that bolts on to the back of the turbo?

One other thing, I am contemplating just going to 5" all he way back now, anyone think it will hurt much until I get injectors next spring?

yes, you could run the 3-4" adapter right after the downpipe clamp... that's what all the aftermarket 4" downpipes do.

I don't think 5" will hurt bad enough to worry about... yes, it'll hurt some, but my god does it sound AWESOME!!

PS, don't get the 300's... get the 370's and some DV's
