Exhaust Manifold? and some fussin!

Hey all, the exhaust manifold on my 99' is cracked in two places, so now im looking into the aftermarket manifolds. Have any of you installed the three piece manifold? Like it, hate it, does it leak at all, any noticeable HP gains or power curve changes? I shudder to ask this question. but how hard are those exhaust manifold bolts to remove? My truck and I have been going round and round here lately. Factory clutch went out at 155K (wouldnt have minded but i was 600 miles from the house) [undecided] cruise control stopped working, turns out the battery on driver side drips onto the vacum hose directly underneath it, eating a hole through the vac. line. Windshield got hit by a rock (STOOPID DUMP TRUCK >) New shocks just replaced + two new steer tires I guess the worn shocks on the front caused very excessive wear and flat spots. Seat ripped resewn. Now the AC has went south will dump itself almost over night. The shop told me 170 bucks for the (I believe its a suction line) I am not totally sure. So I called a bud at auto parts store and he says I can get one for 67 dollars there. Guess I get to wrassle the service guy now. AND!!!! the wipers no longer work on interminent, they still work on slow fast setting. In all fairness the truck has 165K on it now. But all of this stuff has gone out in the past two and a half months. Also the truck has now developed a very loud whine. It comes from the cab area generally in the vacinity of a parts store. When it rains it pours. Ummm back to the exhaust manifold question, anybody know about em ?
Thanks ;D

Well, so far my eperience with the ATS manifold is rather limited. I have one sitting here waiting for me to find the time to install it. I will say it seems very well made.

I bought it for whatever spooling and flow benefits might be gained (even if slight). The slip joints were also a nice feature though my stocker hasn't cracked yet at 188K.
I believe some others have reported a reduction in EGTs.
Now it looks like I'm going to go to twins and the extra strength will be a bonus.

You might send JohnP a PM, I believe he is running the three piece and when I say running, I mean running too.

I haven't read anything bad about the ATS 3-piece manifold. I'm hoping my 99 will hold out for a while, I always take a look at it when I'm under the hood.

Re:Exhaust Manifold? and some fussin!

Arronisbad...The ATS 3-pc manifold is the only aftermarket exhaust manifold I know of for our CTD trucks..They are 3-times as strong, well made and of course 3-pc. I've had one on my truck for over 2yrs. and have never ever heard of one breaking or cracking. The manifold is designed to expand and contract with heat, eliminating cracking. They are very strong and support the weight of larger turbos without a problem, even when inverted for twin installations. They do not leak. They are however, very tricky to put together, as there is no room for error. The three pieces must line-up perfectly and be connected just right, as it would be very difficult to take back apart. If you can change turbos, you can change out the manifold. You will need to purchase from a cummins dealer a new set of gaskets. The kit comes with new longer bolts and washers, as the manifold is much thicker. This will be the last time you change your manifold. Piers usually has the best prices on these manifolds. I have installed several of them for friends, and if you take your time it should be no problem.

Steve

Re:Exhaust Manifold? and some fussin!

Thanks for the replys yall. Once the truck decides its done shucking parts for a while I will get one ordered. Guess while I got it all apart I should stick on a 4 or 5" exhaust too. I am chomping at the bit to do a few mods/upgrades. All things considered mile for mile and dollar for dollar this is the best pickup I have ever owned. <Sigh> will i ever shuck my newbie status??? I understand its something like 10 posts or so till I get memeber status, do replys count, or just posts?

Aaron
