some manifold/exhaust/mouse questions

So i am probably gonna pick up an he351 on monday so hopefully i can have my truck all back together and runnin by that day or tuesday. I have my manifold off right now and i ported it where it hooks on to the motor but i haven't ported the side that hooks onto the turbo yet. The he351 has an undivided housing right? So when port the side of my manifold that hooks to the turbo, can i pretty much just grind the middle part out? like how its divided, can i pretty much just grind the divider out so the exhaust will all just come together and go into the turbo or is this not a good idea? Also I think I might have a mouse in my motor. When i was workin o my truck a few weeks ago, a mouse ran across the top of my motor and then ran down by my tranny, I see the tracks some place in the dust under my hood too. And i went out today and i have my manifold and everything off and i put paper towels in the exhaust ports but on cylinder #1, some of the paper towel was chewed up and I'm wonderin if that lil devil got in that port and into my motor, I know those things can get through small cracks, and so i was thinkin I would put my manifold on and start my truck up for a second with no turbo on it just to make sure there is not a mouse in there, I don't wanna suck a mouse through my new turbo!!! It wouldn't hurt my truck right to just start my truck up and let it idle for a lil bit with no turbo?
Oh and then when i get the turbo on, I'm gonna have to weld the flange off a 3rd gen dp to my 2nd gen downpipe and I will have to do some fitting and welding, but I will have to go to my grandpas which is about 3 miles from my house to weld cuz i don't have a welder, It wouldn't hurt my turbo or anything to drive my truck a few miles with no downpipe or anything on it would it? or I thought about doin a temporary hood stack, and just takin my hood totally off and weldin a 90 onto the flange and puttin a hood stack on it, that way i could go weld it and come back and put it on my truck, instead of havin to drive it with no exhaust. Thanks for the help guys!!!

oh and one more question, what do you torque the exhaust manifold bolts where it hooks on to the motor to?

you'll be fine running the turbo without a downpipe. and to clear the mouse out of your exhaust ports, just run it without the manifold. won't hurt anything that way either. plus you'll hear just what your motor sounds like without a manifold. a lot of valves poppin

Just a thought but you may want to plug up the oil psi line before you make a real mess under the hood.

sounds like you have my kind of luck. dont grind out divider in exhuast manifold. no problem driving with no downpipe a short ditance. as mentioned oil line will be a problem with no turbo, vacuum the mouse out

I know a guy that had a mouse (or mice) to pack a bunch of hickernuts (the way we say hickory-nuts around here) into a cylinder of his tractor.

He ended up pulling the head and they had that one cylinder packed full of nut-hulls and shredded string.

A fat mouse can squeeze through a key-hole.

for your viewing and listening pleasure. don't feel obligated to watch the entire video. they did get kind of lengthy and monotonous. my teacher revved it up and back down again, numerous times. sorry if it's annoying

n14 855ci cummins with the manifold...

and without...

Those videos don't do justice to how loud a diesel with open exhaust barks. It is amazingly loud even at idle.

oh yeah, i forgot about that oil line, I shouldn't have to run the truck too long to see if theres a mouse in there though, I'm gonna laugh pretty hard if that little devil comes out as a little soot covered fur ball. I think if it is in there and its still alive, I'm gonna see if i can grab it, put it in a jar, and wait til i get my turbo on and my hood stack and then just drop that little mouse down the hood stack pipe and start it up and blow that thing 30 ft in the air, that will teach mice to stay away from my cummins!!! ha ha

So you think I shouldn't grind out the divider in the manifold? should i just grind it out a little so it kinda tapers and comes to a sharp edge in the middle, or should i just leave it? I guess if i ever decided to go to another turbo and it had a divided housing, I would have to match up the housing to the manifold, so maybe I'll just leave it.

Just don't let PETA get their hands on it. You'll never live it down.
