exhaust choices

Haven't been on here in a while, but wanted some advice on replacing my exhaust system. While I will be keeping my truck until the wheels fall off of it, it is by no means show quality any longer. My question is, aluminized or stainless? What brand sounds the best and what size is the best? I was thinking 4" with 5" tip (polished of course) but is it worth it to have the whole thing stainless?

Do you live in the rust/snow/salt belt? If so, stainless will last longer. I've always just used aluminized with good results. Turns browinsh quickly but lasts fine for me.

I live near St. Louis. We get some snow but not an unusual amount. I figure I have 240,000 miles on mine and it isn't rusted out yet so chances are aluminized will last a while. So 4" with 5" tip and MBRB sounds like a winner to me unless you guys think differently.

Yep, other than I don't like the 5" tips, that is what I am going to put on.

I just put an turbo back, straight pipe 4" MBRP on mine, and it is nice. No drone, and it's throaty when you want it to be. The wife and I can have a conversation in the cab at highway speed. It's nice.

Did you notice any change in power or EGT's? My 2001 is going to need changing sooner rather than later and I think the MBRP 4" will get the nod. I know the 3.5" turbo outlet is the biggest restriction, but I wonder if a bit of back pressure reduction over the factory 3.5" adds any power or temp gains.

we just installed a flowmaster 4 " system on my friends 01 diesel it was under $500 and uses all factory hangers, easiest exhaust we have ever done included all clamps and the 3 to 4" down pipe

he says there is a noticable power increase and he is stock except for the power puck

I had a alumn ebay exhaust on my dakota. I live in the mountains of pa where there is tons of salt on the roads. I had mine on for 4 years and it still looked about the same as it did when I put it on. I have a 4in down pipe with a 5in straight pipe. Sounds pretty good. Last owner got it done at a truck shop for 300 installed.

I run a 4" mbrp turbo back straight pipe and like it a lot. can easily carry a normal volume conversation in town or hwy at normal talking levels. unless it happens to b wot at 3000 rpm can't comment on power or egts cause it went on a stock truck......old one was rusted right off. I got the aluminized one for like 350 bucks. it works great but I've helped install two flo pros? I believe one on a 95 cummins and one on a duramax and those installed quicker and easier than mine for some reason. close to same price too.
