Engine still overheats

Changed the thermostat in the truck and the truck still runs hot when i romp on it. I guess I will change the water pump and see what happens. I sthere any way to check at see if the water pump is bad?

Mine's starting to do the same thing. I figure we are fueled about the same way. My radiator is clean and my fan is working great and my t-stat is brand new and working perfectly. What are your EGT's when you romp on it? Mine peg 1500* and if I stay in it for a bit I can bring the water temp up to about 210-220*. Only thing I can think of is that there is so much heat being produced from the high EGT's that the cooling system just physically can't handle it. That or I've got a blown headgasket that only shows itself when I play.

You wouldn't happen to be scott would ya?

This sure is scott tyler. Well the funny thing is it never got hot when i romped on it before. Could it possibly be a bad water pump?

Dunno. Mine just started doing it in the last 2 months or so. I know the water pump can't be bad cause the truck would over heat all the time wouldn't it? My truck sits at 180* (I put a 180* t-stat in it) under all conditions except racing. I just don't understand. Coolant isn't low, it's nice and green, you can see it circulating when you pull the cap off, everything is working perfectly. I don't know.

I'm talking WOT EGT's. Those gotta be hot on your truck considering you've got the stock turbo.

also look inside it ...drain a a gallon out and look at the tubes! you might need to replace it if its pluged with mineral deposits

That's funny.....mine's been doing the same thing. I pulled the water pump and it's fine.

I'm gonna pull the radiator and have it rodded out, and I thnk my fan clutch is toast too. I never hear it kick in anymore.

Might be a stupid question, but does the fan clutch do anything at say...2200-2300 RPM @ 80-85MPH?

You don't need the fan clutch at 80MPH

You do need air flow, if the radiator is packed full of debris in the fins,The air cant get to the coolant tubes to cool of the coolant.

First inspect it to confirm its clogged

Look in between the radiator and the intercooler with a flashlight,if its packed with a oil dirt and bugs in the pattern of the fan,you need to pull the radiator lay it face down spray it with Engine Gunk let it soak and spray it of with a water hose.Repeat this process till you can see thru the fins.To prevent this from reoccuring relocate the blow by hose from the front of the engine to the area of the steering box.
