EGT question

My EGT sensor is located right after the turbo. I have been told that the highest temps I should see at that location either 950 or 1100 degrees. Which is the correct number?
Thank you!

Re:EGT question

If your stock then 300 degrees would be a good guess, and thats all it is a guess. However if your modified there has been a proven difference of upto 600 degrees between the two readings.

As you see from my sig. My truck is no longer stock. How do I find out what is safe for my EGT?

There is no "sure fire" way to tell you what the safe temperture is for your truck until you figure out preturbo temps.

Re:EGT question

The best way would be to move the pyro to pre-turbo.

Re:EGT question

Measuring your temp. after the turbo is about equilavent to measuring automatic temp in the oil pan. Neither tell you anything usable about how it's working.
Bruce

Re:EGT question

If you already have a post-turbo probe, I would leave it there and ADD a pre-turbo pyro. The reason for this is the pre-turbo tells you what you are pushing at the moment, but does not tell you how hot the turbo casing has gotten. The post turbo tells you how much heat is left in the turbo casing, which is the reason for the 1 - 5 minute idle cooldown recommended in the owner's manual. I miss the post turbo probe in my '03 (had it on the '99) telling me when the turbo ahs cooled enough for shutdown, and will add one for that at a later point, but I AM happy with the pre-turbo for telling me what I'm sending to the turbo for EGT's (that tells me when I need to back off the pedal or downshift). Just my .02

Re:EGT question
