EGT gauge install question?

I am getting my Isspro gauges installed on Friday. Does it matter if you install it in the Exhaust manifold or in the pipe after the turbo? Also how bad is it for the turbo if some shavings fall into the exhaust manifold? Will they just blow out of the motor or will it tear up my turbo? Thanks

Re:EGT gauge install question?

Pre Turbo (exhaust manifold) is the only way to go on our engines. A few shavings will not hurt the exhaust side of the turbo. I always use a grease coated bit and then put a pen magnet in the hole to pick up the few shavings that do get by.

Great thanks, I can't to see how these gauges look. White faces with chrome. I'll let the guy know about the grease anf magnet, if he doesn't already...

Re:EGT gauge install question?

you can apply air while you are drilling also, this will eliminate most of the metal shavings.

Re:EGT gauge install question?

I used my shop-vac with the crevis tool while drilling to catch most of the shavings.

As much as everyone says you don't have to pull the turbo and I maybe wrong but I do totally disagree with it and would highly recommend you do pull it.

Grease the bit and use a magnet. You will have no problems.

Go preturbo! I removed the turbo (not hard) it only takes 2 gaskets well worth the peace of mind. I have the autometer white face guages, they look great, i think you will like em. If you use the blue bulb covers they will almost match the factory lighting perfectly.

Re:EGT gauge install question?

Not to stir up any messes, but I drilled mine with no grease or other gadgets and goo. Prior to breaking through the wall of the manifold, take your air hose and shoot the shavings off, slowly push through the wall of the manifold and keep running drill while slowly pulling the bit out. Once out, take a pencil magnet and swirl around the manifold until it comes out clean, tap the hole, and thread in the probe. Finish the connections for the gauge, and fire er up.

Re:EGT gauge install question?

I never removed my turbo. Just used grease on the bit, a shop-vac, and a pencil magnet. Results were sweeeeet. If it's easy to pull the turbo, I don't see why not. Peace of mind is a wonderful thing.
