Edge Ez vs. Edge Comp
Edge Ez vs. Edge Comp
Hey guys I have heard that with an Edge Ez you wont have to be as worried about frying your clutch and is a little "easier" on the pickup in whole compared to the Comp. Anyone have any previous experience with the two Boxes and could supply me with some information. This is what a local performance diesel store has told me and was just curious if there was any fallacy to their remarks thanks!
The EZ is a little easier on things because it operates in normal VP-44 parameters... But a comp is not going to destroy your truck, yes it will put more stress on some things, but people run them many, many miles with no problems... And time you increase power there will be some consequences in terms of wear, but watch your FP and you will be fine. It will be more stress on your clutch, but depending on how you drive it may be fine for quite a long time, then you can get a SB!
You could get a Comp, and not tap the wire, run it like an EZ, and them when you want a little more, just tap the wire and be done. For a little while...

If you still have the original fuel pump on the truck, the 98.5 model year stock pumps were prone to fail quick with a Comp. The newer ones (they only have 14 revisions
) don't seem to have the problem as long as fuel pressure is adequate.
On your truck, you can expect around 115hp or so from the Comp, which will put you in the low 300's. The stock 5-speed clutch is good for a bit more than that, so you should be fine unless its old and borderline already.

Ok if I buy the Edge Comp and dont tap the wire is it going to be like the EZ Edge. My problem is I dont have the money to fry my clutch and turn around and get a new one of those as well as the fuel pump. So if I buy the comp w/o tapping the wire will I have to worry about replacing anything right away. Are there any advantages/disadvantages to what im thinking, im mixed and worried about hurtin my rig.
If you run a Comp in EZ mode you are not likely to hurt anything, but lift pumps get weak on stock trucks, I have a friend the toasted his clutch by 100k on a stock truck.
You should be fine, but there is a risk anytime you modify anything. You gotta pay to play, just don't know when you will have to pay...

Carter (stock replacement) about $125
FASSII $350(?) Complete new pump system
FASS $700 (?) New pump and filter system
Or you can go with a Holley Blue/Black pusher for a little more than the Carter
Don't quote me on the FASS prices, they are just ballparks, from memory.

If you are going to want more than the EZ offers down the road I would suggest getting the COMP and not tapping the wire. If you aren't I would suggest getting the van Aaken R box. The R box is a better product imo and is cheaper also.
