No, Floorman, you should be seeing 30+ psi with the EZ. I get pretty close to 34 psi at WOT. You should get 20-21 psi stock. You might have a leak, or your gauge is not accurate. Have you checked your intercooler boots? How does it feel when you drive? Do your EGT's head up fast when pushing it? Are you sure that the EZ is plugged in correctly? Did you install the boost elbow, or whatever the 2001's use for the wastegate?

Just some thoughts.

Hello
Before I installed the boost elbow I am thinking that around 20 psi is what I saw on my gauge. I installed the elbow and what a difference I really feel it when pulling something. I see 32/34 now when I am pulling a good hill with the 5er or goose neck.
Hope this helps
See Ya
Chris

The wastegate is actuated by the elbow.
The elbow lets a little boost escape which pushes on a diaphram on the wastegate to open it.
Stock would be set around 20psi.

The aftermarket elbows have a smaller orifice which lets less boost escape so the wastegate opens later, allowing upwards of 30 psi of boost.

In a nutshell.
No confusing technical info included.

2001+ automatic transmission equipped trucks don't have the elbow.
The wastegate actuator is hardlined.
We need another method of allowing more boost.
Turnbuckle method, .22 shell method, or Turbo Master are our options,
or totally clamping off the actuator (which is bad mojo and leads to grenading turbo's)

Thanks for the insight, phox....
Turnbuckle method, .22 shell method, or Turbo Master are our options
Can you elaborate a little on the last two, please.... I've seen a thread on the turnbuckle approach.

I went from 18 to 24 psi with my edge and stock injectors. But then again I live @ 5300 feet. I noticed my boost went up to 26 in central Nebraska.

The elbow is a small brass 90 degree fitting. It has an orifice in it that regulates the flow of air thru it. it has threads on one end, and a barb on the other. it replaces your stock boost elbow, and allows more air to flow thru.

Since you have an auto as mentioned above the boost elbow will not work. One of the other methods needs to be used. The turnbuckle method is a 2.00 fix for the problem. Go to your local hardware store pick up a turnbuckle . Bend the ends a bit so that they fit where they are going to go a bit better. Remove the airbox for ease of installation. You will see a rod going from underneath the turbo to the wastegate. Place one end of the turnbuckle on the lever that actuates the wastegate at the wastegate and place the other end of the turnbuckle on the portion of the turbo frame that the other end of the rod connects too. Then tighten the turnbuckle so that it is fairly tight. Sometimes a jamb nut is required on the turnbuckle to keep it from loosening up due to vibration. If it is not tight enough it will fall off. There are several variations of this such as adding an S hook to one end and or a stiff spring. The spring allows the wastegate to still open. You may need to play with different springs to get the desired boost pressure before the wastegate opens if you choose to use a spring. The turbomaster is another option that allows adjustability of when the wastegate opens. I use the turnbuckle with no spring and I have an ez and 275's my max boost is 32psi but generally is around 28psi. which is about the effiecency map limit for the little hy turbo.

Mecanos if you loosen the nuts on the wastegate diafram you can pull it down just enough to expose the end of the hardline tube. After you get the tube exposed push a spent 22 shell in the tube. Push the tube & diaphram back into position and tighten nuts and you are done. The Turbo Master is an adjustable assembly that replaces the stock wastegate actuator.

So both the turnbuckle and the .22 shell method disable the wastegate completely.... I read an article on the "Articles" page of this site that shows the installation of an Edge EZ and it looks like it came with a brass restrictor that you put in the hardline just like you described doing with the .22 shell. It then goes on to say to use the supplied #62 drill bit to drill a hole in one side of hard line at the restrictor. I assume this to restrict the flow but still allow the wastegate to open if the pressure was high enough. Am I on the right track here?

I used the fiting & drill bit for the line and it produced the same effect as the buckle (32lbs of boost ither way). I think the #62 hole is so large that any boost that makes it through the restrictor will not open the gate.

BarryG - it interests me that you say since there is an automatic the elbow won't work. I noticed in the documentation that came-w-my Edge EZ that the box would work equally the same -w- or w/o the elbo. If this is the case why should I bother installing it?

The EZ will work the same with or without the extra boost. However the extra boost will help lower EGT from the extra fuel the EZ provides.
