ECM Programmer

Hey all, My brother has a 2001 Dodge CTD and I want to buy a programmer. I don't want to get one that is not usable after tuning one truck, because I'd like to tune a couple friends trucks and mine when I get it. Do they make ones that aren't locked by the VIN, and if there are more than one, what's the best one to get? Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks - Tom

They all VIN lock, but you can return his to stock, and try it on yours.

And as far as the different programmers the Smarty has established itself as being in a different leauge from the Superchips and Hypertech.

And welcome to DTR, don't forget the gauges...

Yep you are outta luck in the tuning department after you load it into one truck. It'd be nice if they all didn't do that but no such luck.

They dont?

what your thinking of is a bully dog (for example, or something of the like) that will download a program on your truck for xxx amounts of drive time. Just so you can try it out and see if you want it or not. Which are mostly on the 3rd gen's IIRC.

but as far as downloading software or a performance program into your ecm from a performance shop for keeps, to the best of my knowledge, they dont do it.

so if you want to tune his truck and your truck and a few more, youll have to buy more than one
