is the rear axle seal on the spindle? I am looking at a parts diagram for the D70 and don't see a seal for the axle tube itself, is there one or is it just the seal on the rear of the spindle behind the bearing? it seems like if there wasn't one, the diff lube would mix in with the bearing grease

There is only 1 seal if that helps. It is very close to the bearing and I think the bearings are lubed by the diff oil, not greased. It's been awhile since I replaced one of those seals, but it is easy to do.

Yes there is only one on the hub assembly. We have full floating rears so the diff lube is the lubricant for the bearings.

holy crap, I better put some in there, it stopped leaking out, hopefully I don't burn up my bearings on the way to get some

Yep, Thats called a full floating axle , the gear oil also lubes the axle bearings . It aint no 1/2 ton
