Dss

I have been reading all the stuff here on these forums for a couple years now and find the people very helpful. I have noticed the same steering wander that alot of you have talked about and read the info on the DSS. I e-mailed the company to ask a couple questions a couple times but I guess they don't return e-mails.
One of my questions is after looking at the install instructions which by the way seem quite simple I noticed that the new nut that goes on the sector shaft that the bearing goes on looked like regular steel. My question is in a place that is exposed to salt 12 months a year will that nut rust and make it hard to change the bearing if need be. I hate to put one of these units on my truck and see it swell up to the point of no removal.. I read that if you can't get the bearing off you can use a wrench and get behind the bearing and remove the nut, but at 185 lb/ft that might be hard..
I drive on salted roads 5 months a year and live by the ocean so my truck get salt and salt air all the time.
Is there anyone who has a DSS have any info that will make my decision any easier. I hate to change something to only have another problem down the road.

I have emailed them numerous times and they don't return any. So what is there for customer support? I think I will do without their product.

When I was considering their product I was e-mailed back in the same day......really too bad if their customer service has gone down hill from there. I've had my DSS on the truck for almost a year now and there is not rust showing yet, and here in Alberta they really sand/salt the roads. I hope this helps.

Old 300,
I have made about 10 -15 DSS type units and they work great. As far as the nut goes I was worried about the same thing so I made the nut on my truck out of a piece of Stainless. Not cheep! If you have a machine shop near you they will be able to help you out. I just did one for a guy with an 87(external box) and he asked if I would chrome plate one for his, so it's off to the chromers now. If your interested I'll let ya know how it comes out.
Good luck,
Topper

Couldn't you just coat the nut with some anti-seize before sliding the bearing on?

The bearing will come off without issue if you have to take it off.

If you dont have a DSS then your missing out.
Its a great product. My 2004.5 steering was going to hell and I put a DSS on and it was back to feeling close to new again.

That's too bad you're skipping the DSS. It's a great upgrade. I'd go without extra power before skipping out on the DSS. Have you tried contacting any of their vendors? I know Piers and Rip both sell the DSS.

There are two companies that claim they invented the DSS.

One, solidsteel.ca, has (to the best of my knowledge) gone out of business, but the website remains.

The other, www.solidsteel.biz, is still in business, and has great customer service,
not to mention is the website of Darrin, of Darrin's Steering Stabilizer, otherwise known as the DSS.

Hey Guys,
There so easy to make it isn't funny. Just go to your local machine shop or if you have the equipment build one at home. Like I said earlier, I have made a bunch and they work great. I cut the parts with our waterjet but if you have a plasma that will work also. If anyone needs a drawing let me know I can furnish you with any info ya need, For free. I'm not looking for work I'm just offering to help.

thanks for the replys, I think I will pick one up. I found a place that sells them in Ontario Canada seeing I'm from the east coast. The company is CPH sales and services. The only thing is I couldn't find the pricing, I guess I will have to call.
